$5 admission (door-only)
The Japanese word tokusatsu refers to all special effects-driven media, but is most frequently used in the context of science fiction and fantasy films and television programs. Defined in the 1950s and imported to the U.S. that same decade, the genre includes everything from kaiju films (Godzilla, Gamera) to heroic television shows (Ultraman, Kamen Rider). Tokusatsu Tuesday is a popular monthly showcase of these programs and the Cinedelphia Film Festival are guest programming this month with an all-horror program.
Tokusatsu Tuesday is held at PhilaMOCA on the third Tuesday of every month. Admission is $5. Shows are presented with English subtitles whenever possible, otherwise they’ll be English dubs.
