40th Anniversary Screening
Punk Rock
(1977, Dir. Carter Stevens, USA, 77 min)
Director Carter Stevens in attendance!

A detective searches for a missing teenager within the late ’70s NYC punk scene in this unsung noir-punk rarity.

Originally shot as a XXX feature, experienced adult film director Carter Stevens took on the challenge of reconstructing the film as a punksploitation mystery following the box office success of Saturday Night Fever.  Stevens removed the majority of the hardcore footage and replaced it with new narrative scenes and a bevy of live musical performances filmed at legendary punk hangout Max’s Kansas City.  Performers include obscure locals Elda and the Stilletos, The Squirrels, and the better-known The Fast who perform their power pop classic “Boys Will Be Boys” in the film.  Possibly of greatest interest is the film’s preservation of a gritty, pre-Giuliani New York complete with a visit to 42nd Street in all of its fondly remembered neon glory.

Filmmaker Carter Stevens will be in attendance for a pre-screening discussion about his long career in the adult film industry as well as the making-of Punk Rock.
