Hosted by Suzanne “Underdog Lady” Muldowney!
Underdog is celebrating his 50th anniversary this year and we’re paying tribute to the classic cartoon canine with the help of local superfan Suzanne Muldowney! Suzanne will perform several of her well-known Underdog-themed interpretative dances and we’ll screen a few of her favorite episodes from the show as well as a very special live-action episode starring Suzanne herself! Come in costume and win Underdog-related prizes crafted by Suzanne! And it wouldn’t be a birthday party without a multi-tiered birthday cake!
Underdog was created by a New York-based ad agency in 1964 with the intention of selling General Mills breakfast cereals. The show turned out to be a big hit thanks to its slick animation and anthropomorphic humor and thus an animation icon was born. The ongoing success of the character is visible in multiple milestones, from its Macy’s Thanks- giving Day Parade balloon to its 2007 big-budget live-action film.
Longtime NJ resident Suzanne Muldowney began performing interpretative dances of fictional characters back in 1976. Best known for her rendition of classic cartoon hero Underdog, Suzanne is also known for her portrayals of Dracula and her self-created character Shelley the South Jersey Shore Mermaid. Her performances in parades and at science fiction conventions along the east coast eventually brought her to the attention of radio personality Howard Stern and she appeared on both his radio show and television program throughout the 90s, an association that she now regrets, but at least it got her an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in 2006. Suzanne is a one-of-a-kind performer who exhibits a true belief in the power of her art.
