(2015, 92 min, Dir. Frank Henenlotter)
Filmmaker Frank Henenlotter
and co-writer/star Anthony Sneed in attendance!
Shifting his focus from rubber monsters and gleeful acts of depravity to the down and dirty NYC art scene, celebrated horror/exploitation director Frank Henenlotter (Frankenhooker, Basket Case) returns with his first narrative feature since 2008’s Bad Biology. Struggling artist Anthony (Anthony Sneed of Bad Biology) dreams of becoming the next big thing, hoping to follow in the footsteps of street art royalty, most notably the enigmatic and hugely popular Banksy. Upon hearing that his hero has tagged a number of locations in post-Katrina New Orleans, Anthony and his friends hatch a plot to track down the pieces, remove them from their structures, and bring them back to New York ripe for auction. With two of the three locations already ransacked, time is short, competition is fierce, and everything is on the line in this decidedly offbeat and wholly unique heist film.
Inspired by his love of graffiti and based on his own real-life scheme to obtain an authentic Banksy, co-writer/producer/star Anthony Sneed leads a charming cast of up and comers, most of them colleagues from NYC’s renowned Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater, where Sneed is a producer and regular performer. Despite falling outside the confines of the horror genre, fans will be happy to know that Chasing Banksy is undeniably a Frank Henenlotter joint from start to finish, with the director’s signature brand of humor, slanted view, and honest insight on full display.
